Lunar Eclipse over Great Salt Lake

Cold, poor light, high ISO... more of an effect shot.... don't look too closely... not tack sharp... but, I was there...

Grand Daughter at One Year

Grand Daughter Addi turns one this coming Friday. Took some time this afternoon and shot her in a variety of settings. This was the third frame... should have stopped then as this was a keeper.

Mike and Becky

Co-worker asked me to shoot some photos of them and their dogs. Note to self....working with people.... great.... working with animals..... funny.... they ignored a squeeky toy and I only had a few of dozens of shots that had both dogs facing sorta towards the camera. I made many exposure mistakes with and without flash.... but... learned alot and had fun. Thanks to Mike and Becky for their patience with me. These are some that I liked and worked on.

Salt Lake City at Night

I shot this with a 400mm lens and a 1.4X extender. With crop factor of the APS-C sensor it yeilds just short of 900mm at F8. This was shot from almost 12 miles away on the far side of the Salt Lake Valley. Not razor sharp... but..  I think it turned out pretty cool.

Salt Lake City and the Salt Lake Valley after a storm

Shot from the foothills to the North of Salt Lake City. Thanks to Lightroom 3 I didn't have to use my graduated ND filter... Probably should have then there would be less post.

Utah State Capital Building after a storm

A little reworking in Lightroom 3.

Another Great Salt Lake HDR shot

More HDR work. Interesting to me.

GSL Sunset... more....

This is a HDR attempt.

Great Salt Lake Sunset

Another evening spent at the Great Salt Lake. Three mosquito bites to prove I was there. Most of what I shot was bracketed for HDR processing. This was not. Just pulled off the road with my 70-200 F2.8 and fired away. ISO set at 3200, 1/800th of a second at F5 if you must know. I didn't even get out of the car... turned off the engine and rolled the window down... hand held. Loved the colors.

Couple enjoying beach of GSL at Sunset

Cropped, but unretouched.

Saturday Evening Shooting the Sunset at the Great Salt Lake Marina

Marnae rode out with me. We went to the GSL Marina... Marnae.... a SLC native ... had never been there before so that was a treat introducing her to the place. I hoped for a brillant sunset... didn't get it. Liked some of the photos that I shot.

Pictureline Class

This is one of the test shots available during a class that I took at the Draper Pictureline. The class was on getting your flash off of the camera and using some of the remote settings of the camera and flash. I liked how this turned out. They had a fish tank and dropped in a strawberry only after you connected with the two flash units that they set up and then prefocused on a hammer that they inserted in the tank. A lot of fun.

Stormy Spring on GSL

I was hoping for a brilliant sunset to break out of the clouds. Didn't happen. Time was not wasted however. I still liked the sunset... ish.

Great Salt Lake Panorama

I took two different Panoramas today. On the second I did not put the lens on Manual and it went out of focus in the middle. I shot 13 photos to make this panorama. The original file when I made the panorama was over 500 meg. It is over 5' high and 12' wide with high detail. A lesson learned from a George Lepp seminar. I liked how this turned out. Still need to do a little retouching in the sky.

Stormy Day at Great Salt Lake

I chased after the picture of the Peregrin for 20 minutes and this was the best shot. That smart little bird would fly off over the lake when I stopped the car. Varied his moves when I tried to predict his next move. Then flew over the interstate as a final gesture of contempt. Beautiful to watch. Tough to Photograph. Light was dim and the auto focus tried it's hardest. The pair of ducks presented themselves near the end of my outing. They were flying opposite to my travel. Quickly pointed and shot. Not tack sharp, but, I am working on it.

South Shore of Great Salt Lake

After work the sky looked interesting. I drove West rather than East to home. Time well spent.

This is the reflection in the beach.

More Power Plant

Lesson learned about no tripod and high ISO (noise). Well... sorta learned

Power Plant and Train Industrial Shot

Driving back to the plant after having dinner. I had been watching the sunset while eating. This shot jumped out at me. I had actually driven two blocks away and did a u-turn. I softened the noise in Lightroom... not sure if I like the softer look... the image was sharper prior.

Another Skateboard Shot

Ok... Maybe a little oversharpened... but, I like it.

Skateboarder

I met Misha at a local park during lunch. He ran through this move five or six times for me to mess with lighting. Nice guy. Then I messed with filters in PSE.

Another Lunch time drive to the Salt Lake

Antelope Island with shadows. I liked it.

End of Saturday

Shot this evening. Nope... didn't play with saturation... just shot on the cloudy setting that adds warmth.

Waiting for Train

Waiting for a train to pass. Only Photoshop work was to crop. 1/6th of a second at F5 with ISO of 3200. Camera balanced on steering wheel. Kind of hated to see the train pass.... kinda....
